Crossed a lot of borders

New Zealand Weekend Herald
APN News and Media

The Editor of the Weekend Herald, New Zealand’s leading broadsheet publication, approached us to bring the newspaper firmly into the new decade. Coming from a position of market leadership, the redesign strategy focussed on capitalising on their position of strength, but ensuring continued success into the future. The philosophy of the visual approach was to make a large, intimidating format feel approachable and intimate, without sacrificing the real estate of a broadsheet page. This philosophy extended to the physical structure of the newspaper, which was radically re-adjusted, including a new tabloid lift-out ‘keepaside’ section. The design was developed and implemented in close collaboration with the in-house art director and editorial team, and has been extremely well received by readers and staff alike.

Harvard Business Review
Harvard Business Review Publishing

We worked intimately with the Harvard Business Review editorial team to take a deep look at this precious, internationally revered magazine brand. The design process used our abilities to make sophisticated and complex ideas readable and even enjoyable. While the magazine is unashamedly intellectual, it is now building a consistent relationship and reputation with its customers across multiple platforms; print, web, mobile and books.

Jakarta Globe

Lippo Group

The Jakarta Globe launched in November 2008 with 48 full-color broadsheet pages daily, six days a week. With online capacity from day one. The design process included working with the start-up team to devise and build an innovative ‘media flexible’ newsroom and workflow, hire and train local staff, and position the product as the new, credible English-language source of Indonesian news to the world. And of course design and implement the entire visual product across both print and web.

Global Asia

East Asia Foundation

We were commissioned to create a complete visual approach for this Korean-based international policy journal. Boasting a roster of eminent thinkers and commentators on issues relating to Asia and regional policy development of peace initiatives. We developed a complete visual library including powerful infographics and restrained typography, that gives this product the best mix of intellectual appeal and inviting readability. The visual approach to information helps to raise the profile of the journal, giving it greater effectiveness.
