Whew! The brief was to create a newspaper style that was exciting yet not too demanding on sub-editors; that was a bit like both the Herald and The Age yet a completely individual product. They needed a newspaper that could be completely pre-planned but would be dynamic on the day, and be easy to produce yet innovative in its design.
Steps to the solution were carefully managed through project planning with a tight, efficient project team. The successful negotiation of the company politics was a big factor in the job’s success.
De Luxe built a solid chassis with well defined rules. We introduced some unique fonts and layout options and road-tested all the designs to within an inch of their life.
The result was three weeks of excitement and smooth, flexible running. A huge success. Both The Age and The Sydney Morning Herald believe they have never functioned so well as newspapers. They have brought many of the successful ideas back into their daily production.
