A Hong Kong publisher wanted to start a magazine that would become the signature of local Hong Kong creative culture, for a local audience. The challenge was to create a suitable structural approach to the magazine which, whilst using English as its main language, needed to appeal to readers whose first language was Cantonese.
We developed a strongly gridded structure that engaged with local photographers and illustrators to bring a truly local voice to the publication. We used a mixture of English and Chinese typography to lead into articles and provide the distinctive personality that could serve as an armature for the diversity of content.
